bb History

In 1974 two brothers, Rainer and Dieter Buchmann, started a workshop that would change the standard of customization and bring the art of coachcraft into the 21st century called bb Auto. Today another B.B., Beau Boeckmann is bringing bb Auto to California, bridging the Buchmann brothers vision with the skills and techniques of today.

The brothers Buchmann and their b+b Auto Exklusiv Service came to rise in the height of mid-seventies German economic boom. Situated in Frankfurt, they found that car enthusiasts wanted to express themselves in different ways, but the ways of modern manufacturing didn’t allow for much variation from the factory.

They looked back to the time when designers and craftsmen would build bespoke works of art on blank frames and wondered if they could do the same thing. Their vision would combine the body lines of a car and stuff it full of the day's top technology to create a fever dream you could push to 11. Turns out they were not wrong. In just a few years, demand skyrocketed, and Rainer's wife, Kathrin, stepped in to help manage the influx of orders and inquiries. Kathrin's influence was pivotal in shaping the BB brand, ensuring it stayed ahead of the game as their reputation grew.

From audio equipment that would turn your radio into a symphony, to the world’s first steering wheel controls, to the world’s first retractable folding metal roof, bb became known for daring to turn dreams into realities for the likes of Porsche, Mercedes, Volkswagen and Volvo.

bb-Auto is joining the Galpin Motors family to solidify its position as the epitome of car customization and reputation for embracing car customization and racing, Galpin has been a trailblazer in the industry.

From launching a West Coast NASCAR racing team to introducing customized off-road vehicles and custom vans, they have always been at the forefront of building dream vehicles.

A 550 hp, naturally aspirated, hybrid sportscar fever dream that brings you back to a different time while letting you keep up with modern machinery.

To some, the G body 911 is the purest expression of the platform ever made. It sits right in the sweet spot of modern but still analogue. Our car starts its life as a G body but ends up transformed into something else entirely.

Engine Build

Technology has come a long way since the 80’s. From fuel efficiency to hybrid power we took a look at the things that might have been done differently today, and did them. The bb-Auto Porsche 911 Targa Hybrid takes the visceral, analog feeling of a g-body 911 and uses the technology of today to make it feel like a modern car. Creating a 550hp, naturally aspirated hybrid monster designed to keep up in the canyons with anything you might encounter.

Ed Pink has been building racing engines since 1958. The engines he builds have been winning races since 1958-and-a-day. He didn’t earn the moniker “The Old Master” from nothing. His reputation and longtime friendship is the reason he’s the only call we made when we wanted to develop our engine.

Ed Pink’s team took a standard 3.2L flat six and punched it out to an even 4.0 liters. Balancing and fine tuning everything else along the way. But a finely tuned engine wasn’t enough. We partnered with Vonnen Performance and adapted one of their hybrid units for this engine. The hybrid unit takes an already stout engine and turns the wick up by adding 150hp in an unlikely place, the flywheel.

Interior

Inside the cabin of the bb-Auto 911 Targa Hybrid you feel less like you’re in the 80’s and more like you’re in the “right now’s.” Every stitch has been touched and every surface reimagined by our team of interior specialists. Bespoke materials will envelope the interior touchpoints, while modern electric A/C keeps you cool. The driver gets their information from a set of revamped and customized panels and gauges done by North Hollywood Speedometer, while the passenger has an infotainment system all to themselves. And to top it all off, literally, the standard targa roof is replaced with a stunning, and still removable, glass panel.

We redesigned every facet under the fenders to give you a unique driving experience that is usually reserved for more modern machinery. Custom billet 993 style suspension, bolted to custom flow-formed wheels help put the 911 Targa Hybrid power to the ground. While our custom Brembo brakes and rotors help bring all those extra horses to heel quickly and safely.
